Fuel preheating

Most ships are fuelled by different qualities of heavy oil.
Heavy oil is viscous at room temperature and is therefore preheated to 40 to 50 degrees Celsius for pumping, depending on the type. The oil must have a temperature of 130 to 140 degrees Celsius for combustion inside the engine. This is achieved using oil pre-heaters, which use steam or hot water as a heating medium.

RTK offers equipment suitable for this purpose:

  • Temperature sensors for heavy oil
  • Process controllers as oil temperature regulator
  • Straight-way and three-way motor- or pneumatic control valves
  • Temperature regulators without auxiliary energy

Waste heat utilisation

The main engine is the heart of every ship, so to speak. Fuel combustion continuously generates heat which is then utilised in many ways. The machine coolant is used to e.g. air condition passenger and crew areas.
But even cargo areas or tanks need to be kept at a temperature optimal for the goods carried.
